6 Purple Shampoos you should know about
The number one question I get asked on a near daily basis is, “What is the best purple shampoo?”
Another question I am asked often is, “What is the difference between purple shampoo and blue shampoo?”
Today, I have 7 purple shampoos just waiting to be applied to some hair. And one of our guest stars today is actually a blue shampoo.
These hair samples I’m using today are actually my own hair from a haircut I got 2 years ago. I made quick and easy extensions.

❀ THE TEST ❀
Shampoo #1 dpHUE
This is the fragrance-free shampoo that we are trying out today. It applies nice and thick with a rich purple color.
Shampoo #2 Luseta
This is one of my favorite smelling shampoos! I can’t pinpoint the scent, but it reminds me of a strong spicy flowering bush. The shampoo is a pretty color, however it’s quite translucent.
Shampoo #3 Pura D’or
This is one is my least favorite scent. It smells like clinical soap. It’s color is also quite translucent.
Shampoo #4 Bold Uniq
This is smells great—like grapefruit! The viscosity is very thick and it’s also quite dark in color.
Shampoo #5a Oligo violet
This shampoo has a pleasant scent and is the one I personally use most often. As far as marketing it as a “violet” shampoo, it’s very blue in color!
Shampoo #5b Oligo blue
This shampoo has the same scent as the Oligo violet. The viscosity seems to be slightly thicker than the violet. It’s color is a dark cobalt blue.
Shampoo #6 Acure
This shampoo smell delicious! It has a warm almond scent. It has a thinner viscosity and the lightest and most translucent of all the shampoos.
❀ RESULTS ❀
After applying all 7 shampoos to my hair samples, I noticed a difference between the shampoos right away. Three of the shampoos were very light in color and intensity: Luseta, Pura D’or, and Acure. Four of the shampoos seemed more intense: dpHUE, Bold Uniq, and Oligo (violet + blue). Of the more intensely colored shampoos, two left a dark “ghost” behind: Bold Uniq and Oligo blue. At that time, I predicted that Bold Uniq and Oligo would likely remove the most brassiness.
I waited 10 minutes before rinsing the samples.
Then I let them mostly air dry before gently blowing them all the way dry.
❀ CONCLUSION ❀
After closely examining the hair samples, most of them did not change in color at all.
As I predicted, two of the shampoos actually canceled some of the yellow in the hair. These two are BOLD UNIQ and OLIGO blue.
There are minor differences between the changes from Bold Uniq and Oligo blue. The Bold Uniq lightened the hair and gave it a slightly rosy hue. The Oligo blue lightened the hair and gave it a slightly greenish hue in comparison.
