In 2021, natural grey hair is going to continue its popularity. As 2020 saw a sharp spike in dye reduction, 2021 will be no different. It has become a growing and inspiring trend for many. It will continue to be one of the most empowering hair movements of 2021.
IN the modern mullet
In 2020, there was a strong trend for a modern shag. This shag haircut has evolved into the modern mullet. It’s a great way to keep the length of your hair and have fun short layers as well. Many see this haircut as edgy and even rebellious. Some of the most noteable celebrities with a mullet are: Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Brad Mondo. This haircut has become so popular that there are many at home tutorials for those desiring to cut their own hair!
OUT the shag
The modern mullet has replaced the shag although the shag still looks great!
in metallic hair color
In addition to haircut trends, there are also color trends. 2021 will bring back the colorful trends of past years with a modern twist.
Some of the most popular colors will be metallics. Rose gold, purple silver, hot copper, and cool bronze
in hot copper
-or- cinnamon colored hair
With the rising popularity of 1960s styles, we will see more people dyeing their hair a version of cinnamon red. The widely popular Netflix series, the Queen’s Gambit showcases a character with a bright naturally copper-colored coiffure.
in flipped out bob
The Queen’s Gambit is also partly responsible for the rise IN RETRO STYLES such as the 60s flipped out bob. This is the same cut and color of a retro fashionsita from the 90s Dee-lite!
OUT the blunt bob
This hairstyle will never truly go out of style, however new more exciting hairstyles will replace the blunt bob in 2021. Blunt cuts are going out of style. Having no texture and having all your hair one length is going to be a thing of the past.
IN full length retro 1970s long layers
For those who used 2020 to grow out their locks and they don’t want to lose all the growth, there’s a technique called microdusting which is carefully trimming split ends without changing the length of the hair. To add to the retro look, long face-framing layers are cut and then loosely curled back in a wavy texture. Most of the haircuts we see will be straight out of the 70s.
in twilighting
Bleaching and highlighting hair has been a staple in hair makeovers for decades. The most modern way of bleaching and highlighting is twilighting. It is a subtle way to introduce a highlighted color. It combines babylights and ombre highlights.
out all over 1 color
IN hidden rainbow color
Rainbow hair was widely popular in 2019 and saw a fade-out in 2020. In 2021, rainbow will be making a resurgence as a hidden layer under a more natural color like blonde or brown.
IN halo hair
Much like the popular trend of dyeing the front pieces a wild color, halo hair has a brightly color band all around the base of the hair. This means that the hair color completely changes to the bright hair when wearing an updo.
IN undyed hair
The natural silver hair trend is still going strong with no signs of stopping! The silver hair revolution gained a lot of momentum in 2020, and is going to still be relevant in 2021
