August Abundance: A Garden's Summer Finale
August Abundance: A Garden's Summer Finale
Let’s showcase the bountiful beauty of a garden in the peak of August.
How to make the most of your garden during this transitional month and to prepare for the upcoming fall season. Be sure to watch the whole video because I give you my favorite picked pepper recipe, and you’ll get to meet my furries!
Late Summer Flowers
In August, our garden is adorned with a magnificent display of late summer flowers. Zinnias, cosmos, and hibiscus thrive in the warm sun, attracting busy bees and butterflies. These resilient beauties endure the summer heat, painting our garden with vibrant hues.
Abundant Harvest
As we stroll through the vegetable garden, we're greeted by an abundant harvest. Juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, succulent peppers, and a variety of squash offer a delicious reward for our gardening efforts. This year, I also planted potatoes and sunflowers. And don’t forget to plant fruiting trees and bushes that produce food year after year with little effort.

Greyson, the monster cat
Oh, and speaking of rewards, look who we have here—Greyson, the mischievous cat of the garden! He seems to have found our catnip patch in the well and is having quite the feast.
Greyson surely knows how to indulge in the finer things nature has to offer.
Water-Wise Gardening
August's heat can be challenging, but our water-wise gardening practices help conserve resources while keeping our garden thriving. Mulching, using drought-resistant plants, and efficient irrigation are key to maintaining this lush oasis. I have been fortunate this year with the abundance of rain that I haven’t needed to water my garden much.
Miyu, the Garden Helper
And look who's joining us now—Miyu, our ever-helpful garden companion. Miyu loves to lend a paw and enjoys exploring the garden while we tend to its needs.
Miyu's enthusiasm is contagious, making our gardening moments even more enjoyable.
Picked Pepper Recipe
Harvest some of those ripe, flavorful peppers we picked earlier and turn them into delicious pickled delights.
These tangy treats will add a burst of flavor to your meals, and they're a fantastic way to preserve the summer's bounty.
2c chopped pepper of choice. I am using jalapeños.
1c water
1c white vinegar
1TBS salt
3 TBS sweetener (sugar, honey, agave)
1TBS minced garlic
heat in a pan until salt and sugar are dissolved and mixture comes to a boil. Add the peppers. Remove from the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Using tongs, transfer all the peppers and garlic to a clean jar. Fill the rest of the jar with the solution. Refrigerate and eat!
As the sun sets on my beautiful August garden, we're reminded of the inspiration that gardening brings into our lives.
It's not just about growing plants—it's about fostering a connection with nature, creating a sanctuary for wildlife like butterflies and bees, and nurturing our furry friends like Greyson and Miyu.
Gardening teaches us patience, resilience, and the joy of witnessing life bloom before our eyes. So, whether you have acres of land or just a windowsill garden, go ahead and get your hands dirty. Embrace the August abundance, and let the wonders of gardening fill your heart.
